For the past week, issues trending in Ghana are #Number12, Kwesi Nyantakyi, Ghana Football Association amongst others. All these are related to one international undercover investigative journalist, Anas Aremeyaw Anas on his latest expose on corruption in Ghanaian football.
Thousands of people thronged at the Accra International Conference Centre for the first public viewing of the video. Lots of celebrities and public figures were not left out of this viewing. These include the former Attorney General Marietta Brew, Mahama Ayariga, a former youth and sports minister, Captain Planet of 4X4 fame amongst others.
Issues have also being raised about Anas’ method of investigation such as breach of privacy, enticement, entrapment and the likes but the question is that “is Anas an asset or liability to Ghana”. Anas has been in this business for a long time and has risen to be one of the best journalist in the globe. He has these expose at the ports, police service, immigration, osu orphanage home and others.
Upon all these investigations, few have been done about corruption in the country. Some have been asked to step aside, others suspended, others have also lost their source of livelihood but drastic measures has not been take to curb this canker. This leads to frustrations and anguish among the citizens with regards to the change they wish to see after these exposes.
We can question Anas on his methods but on what basis is he doing all these investigation? Is he only after the big fishes leaving the small ones who will one day become big? Who is funding his work as an undercover journalist? Or have we trusted him so much that whatever he does is true without scrutiny? Who will take over from him if he finally ends it?
You decide whether he (Anas Aremeyaw Anas ) is an asset or a liability.
